A while back, I was browsing reddit and I came across r/luciddreaming. It quickly became one of my favourite places to check when I had a few minutes with nothing to do. I read the posts and marvelled at some people's natural ability to lucid dream. I wanted to do it too - because I have a little natural talent in this area (I've lucid dreamed in the past without trying and I've always had amazing dream recall).
So I set up my dream journal and tried to remember to do reality checks often (I fail at remembering to do things, though). So I went back to reddit and read about an app that helps you to remember to check if you are dreaming. It chimes at random intervals throughout the day and pops up a screen with "Am I dreaming" written on it. I downloaded that about a week ago. And slowly, the idea to remember to reality check has written itself into my brain. I remember to do it every so often without the app's help. So anyway - that's backstory.
Last night I dreamt I was in a shop, wandering the aisles. As I passed a shelf its generic contents changed to jars of nutella. My brain went: am I dreaming? And sure enough... Woooooooo! I tried to change some things but couldn't quite focus enough. So I tried stabilising the lucidity and that worked enough for me to create a doorway out of the dream (with the intention that it would pop me into a far more interesting space). I went through, but as I did, the lucidity vanished and I was back in a normal - but very adventurous - dream.
I'm thrilled and hope that I can become lucid a bit more frequently. Now I just have to learn how to hold onto it for longer.
My life as it unfolds week by week (or month by month depending on how interesting things are).

web things
I have a bunch of feeds in google reader that I look at every morning. The top of the list contains writers, then agents, then writing help, then inspirational things, then large sites that post more than 20 articles a day, and then random people I find interesting. I read them one after the other and sometimes, I get confused about what section I'm in. So I'm reading about the latest movie news, wondering why an environmental blog is posting about movies. And then I remember to look at what blog I'm reading. It's kinda funny, but it is really confusing. And it happens often enough that you'd think I'd not keep doing it.
I updated three corner square yesterday. First post since the new year. I think I have to change the idea of my site. It's really hard to come up with writing advice every week, so I think I'll make it more of a thoughts on writing / progress log and the weeks I have writing tips, I'll post them.
I don't have much other news. I think I was a cross between Siluna (my world of warcraft druid) and an army commando in my dream last night. Or I was in some kind of battle royale type thing, where there were a bunch of deadly people all out to kill each other for the entertainment of spectators. I remember being let loose (by some woman, who was in charge of everything) in a forest and instantly looking for cover. But I'd been tracked and we fought. I don't think I did very well. I seem to recall being thrown onto a tile floor - like you see in old hospitals in movies. And I couldn't get up because of the pain.
And there was something about driving to a field - it was lashing rain - to find an old tent and a barrel or something. I have no idea what I wanted them for, but everything was old and battered and I was just settling for these items because they seemed the best of what was there.

Explosions
I watched this show on explosions last night. I love explosions, and it was pretty cool to see real life ones (even if they were on tv). real life explosions are way bigger than anything hollywood can do.
anyway. last night i dreamt that i was in a car with a bunch of people (family - there was someone like my cousin louise there). the car was full and we were driving down a small road. out the window i could see a rocket launch tower, and a rocket ready to go. it got up about a hundred meters and exploded. there was a small explosion first, which knocked the car off the road. i shouted to everyone to get away, and we tried to run, but a few seconds later another explosion blasted through the air.
next thing i remember is ambulances and doctors all around us. i'd been injured badly and was brought away to get fixed. i warn them that i don't want any drugs. next i remember, i'm up and looking for penelope_stone. i can't find her anywhere and i'm dead scared that she was killed in the explosion. i look around for ages - up the beach beside her house (not like it is in reality, the house was next to a road which curved around the shore - it was all flat, and there were loads of trees; it was a nice place). i get back to the house and look through all the rooms. not-quite-louise is there, and she's badly injured. i try to reassure her that she'll get better, and she's a bit talkative, but really scared.
after a while i remember that penelope_stone wasn't in the accident. she had to go to college and couldn't come on the trip with us. she's being held in college, because they don't want her getting in the way of a bunch of injured people.
it was odd, and not very nice.

Strange Day Today
Woah, it's snowing outside. That's unexpected. In a few minutes the ground went from ground coloured to white. The wind is strong, too - the snow is almost horizontal (it's at about 27°) and its zooming down the wash (i wonder does the wash itself help with making the wind faster).
I had a really wierd dream last night. I can only remember bits. davidnarby was in it. and my bike got put in an oven. i can't remember why, but there was a reason, and i expected everything to be fine - it was to fix a problem... melt grease maybe... expand metal... anyway. the tires melted and i was very upset, especially since my tires are only a month old.
I think i'm finally getting a hold on book 2. i have the three acts set (act 2 seems a bit short), there's a conflict (you'd be surprised, but it didn't really have any conflict before today), the outline has me excited. i know how it ends, but i need something to get me from the start of act 3 to the end of it. and it has to be adventuresome.
It stopped snowing again. I'm going to go now.

Being a Tourist
We made it to Old Town Albuquerque on Saturday (I think, the whole four days of the weekend have blurred into one. Edit: it was Friday). Once again I didn't have my camera, because it was kind of spur of the moment. We'd been out getting some things and just decided to head on to the old town. My main comments were, it's so pretty, and (about one building in particular), I want to live in a house that has a courtyard entrance just like this. All the houses were made of orange stone, but this one in particular had narrow walls leading to a little courtyard. Plants and cacti lined the walkway. A little (tiny) fountain / well stood at the centre of the courtyard - made of the same materials as the walls. It was all so cute and pretty. Each of the rooms (converted to shops) were small and cosy. None of the walls were straight, there were no corners in sight.
We sat on the lip of the fountain in the sunshine and it was just lovely.
In random other news: There was a rabbit hopping in the grass outside our apartment the other day. I think they live in the dune that's next to us.
I had the wierdest dream last night. I can't even focus on this post because it's so in my mind.
I was in a big house somewhere and some kind of gathering / party was just over. People had headed away and I was looking for a bed to sleep in. Or something. I was looking for something. It may have been my shoes so that I could leave too. Yea, I think that was it.
Anyway. I thing I found them and was on my way out when I looked out a window. The sky was bright and clear and there as a planet hovering just above the sky. It was at crescent, so half the sky was visible and the other half was a white mass of cratered planet. I couldn't move I was so frightened. I knew this planet was here to destroy Earth. And if it didn't destroy the world, the force of its mass so close to the planet would.
I knew just what that meant. Tidal waves - huge ones. As the thought went through my head, a mountain of water crashed against the window.
lordkilljoy and I leapt for cover, praying that the window would hold against the water crashing against it. Water covered it, covered the whole house, and a second later the window cracked. Water spewed in from the crack in the corner, but a second later the water receded.
We ran, checking to make sure everyone else was ok. I knew it was futile. I knew this was the end of the world.
I can't remember what happened after that. There was some kind of battle. There could have been mechs involved. There was definitely some kind of flying robot on our side. But I think all that happened before the tsunami, or we were defeated or something. I definitely woke up thinking, I don't want the world to end.

D&D
Barry's game was on yesterday. It was a lot of fun (I can't type a lot any more without thinking of the alot: cute monster who has many variations). We played with a group of lads in America over Skype - the group Barry used play with. It worked out surprisingly well. It was a little hard to hear them at times, but the game went smoothly (enough). The issues we had were character issues, not gameplay issues. Don't put a magic hating barbarian in a group with seven caster-types. We had to violently subdue the barbarian. Even going so far as to kill him and raise him again. Hmmm, that could make an interesting form of torture.
We were playing 2nd ed. I absolutely do not know that system at all. I automatically went to roll initiative with a d20 and got laughed at. Oh well.
I don't have much other news. There was a giraffe in my dream last night. I don't think I've ever dreamed of a giraffe before. So odd.

Pearls of Life
so, news, news, news. quite a lot happened since last night.
ok, ever the last few days i've been really apathetic. i spent most of yesterday morning staring at the wall. i am not kidding. i had my computer off and was just sitting, looking. and thinking a little.
since davidnarby's last post i've been having synchronisity things happen all over the place. first, will wheaton posted about how a computer crash gave him the opportunity to watch a humming bird out his window. it hit a nerve inside me, made me think, "this is right." then steve pavlina posted about living in the moment, seeing everyone in his world as an extension of himself. he wrote two (or three) posts about his new state of mind, and every one of them had to do with listening to what the world is telling him.
so i think, maybe, that's what i was doing yesterday. listening to the world. or more, i was listening to the fact that i wasn't inspired to do anything at all, and i wasn't fighting it. i went with the apathy.
anyway, whatever it was, it was amazing because of what happened today.
i've been having trouble coming up with a good ending for my novel, or maybe not a good ending, any ending at all. i scrapped the ending i had, based on bad feedback and my personal feeling that it wasn't good.
so last night, i had a dream. as i do most nights (actually my dreams for the last few nights have been all over the place, but when i wake i can only remember a few images). but last night i dreamt about zachery and someone called the mentor. i spoke with the mentor and when i woke up this morning, i had the inspiration i needed to write the new ending.
so i got up, all cheerful about my day's writing. and then i went into the room and the first thing i noticed was my pepper plant. it's better. it's leaves aren't wilted any more. it seems my plant first aid worked. i texted penelope_stone at 8:45 to share the good news. then i sat down and started writing.
between 9am and 2pm i wrote 2,500 words. and most of them are good words, i think. i'm almost finished. i just have one scene left to write (maybe two).
today has been a good day.
ps, the cherry tomato is almost as tall as the pepper, but it's not as big, yet.
pps livejournal's new tag select means i put way more tags on my posts. mad.
right - another synchronicty - i was inspired by a dream, and the chosen theme on phantom was dreams.
another cool thing, i randomly found jennifer jackon's blog, right here on Lj. it came up as a recommended on my google reader, but mentioned nothing about ms. jackson. i looked at it based on the coolness of the name alone (et in arcaedia, ego). as i was reading through it, a thought came to me: this could be jennifer jackon's blog. i clicked through to the user info and sure enough, it was. amazing. for anyone interested, she is arcaedia.
right i'm really going now.

typing myself into oblivion
news, news, news.
i did my first assignment over the week. i ended up typing over 10,000 words in 8 hours. my hands were a bit sore afterwards. typing up voices takes an incredible amount of time. and i don't really think it matters how fast you are, because you get to a bit where you can't hear and you spend about 20 minutes just trying to decipher it. anyway - i had fun doing it. people speak really weirdly when you actually listen to them.
penelope_stone is coming up this weekend. that will be fun. i was going to go to carlow, but that's not happening now.
i'm back playing oblivion again. :scratch head: yea. i didn't think that would happen either, but i decided to play it on the xbox - just a quick run through of the main quest (and possibly the thieves' guild quest line, because i never finished it) and i got hooked. i'm going thieves, mages, main and deadra quests (and some random stuff). and once i get better at killing stuff, i'm going to join the dark brotherhood. hmmmm. i was only going to play for a week or something... oh well. (oh yea, my character is kind of pretty too. not as pretty as her in my icon, but pretty enough.)
i'm messing around with wordpress at the moment too. it's incredibly flexible with designs and layouts and stuff. you can design it any way you want. it's brilliant.
lordkilljoy is in singapore at the moment. i had an awful dream last night about being at home on my own, and all these men got into the house and were chasing me around the place. i tried to hide in the bathroom, but they broke down the door. it was awful.

dream of destruction
i had a very strange and intricate dream last night. it all took place in one city (possibly on an island, but maybe a peninsula). it was right by the sea with a nice beach and possibly palm trees.
at the start of the dream the city got attacked by aliens. they came down in huge ships, all light and colour, exploding everything, creating chaos. people ran everywhere, totally panicked and a lot of people were killed.
the middle section involved the city going on fire. i was in a hotel or something and we all had to get out. and this old man was somehow important (he was telling me about the alien attacks?). there were loads of people in the hotel - all in a sort of foyer just waiting - possibly refugees from the earlier attack? we may have gotten out. but i seem to recall something about the roof? or air conditioning extractor things or something?
and then i woke up in cork (i'm not in cork this weekend) and was telling mammy about how i had decided to come down at the last minute (by somehow beaming there instantly?). i wanted to see penelope_stone but she was asleep. i think the old man came back into it here - i had to escort him home or something.
and then i was back in the city, only this time it was over-run by evil military forces. they wore white (so that you could pick them out easily). i was fighting with a bunch of resistance people, getting farther and farther into the military base - running from troops, but into others. and then i met someone from the city (who looked like colin farrell or maybe brad pitt as his character from fight club). i knew him (sort of) and i hated him because he was a traitor. he was ordering a few troops around and i walked up to him.
for some reason i raised my arm (maybe to hit him) and a little red dot flew past it - lightly tipping it. he looked at me and rised his arm, showing me a little X on his wrist, right where the red fly-insect-thing had just bitten me.
"do you know what that was?" he said.
and i just stood there, in shock, not really wanting to know because it was a little fly that killed you within a few hours. i stumbled away - none of the troops would attack me any more. i had a little time to act, so i tried to find their main weak point, but everything was falling apart and i was stumbling along (and exaggerating it a bit to make sure no army-guys tried to kill me) and then i got to some stairs and just lay down with people walking by me as if i didn't exist.
and then i woke up. i really didn't want to wake up - i wanted to know if i managed to get up again and destroy the place. because i wasn't near death - i was mostly faking it. and the dude who had the scar was fine even thought he'd been bitten too.
yea - i think borderlands inspired that dream. lordkilljoy and i finished it last night. got to level 36 and the last bad guy was a little bit easy to kill, but ah well. i still want to get to level 50, though. does the game know itself to start you all over again, or do you have to go to some particular place. we still have the zombie island of dr. ned to go, though.
i don't really have anything else to say. i might head into town, because i want to buy stuff for people. i hate shopping in dublin though, because i only know where all the department stores are.

i can't think of a subject
this morning i turned on my computer and the second icon to greet me in the notification area was a functional internet connection. and my response was: sweetness insanity! i haven't used that phrase in a long time - i kinda wondered where it came from, what murky depths of my brain did it leap out from when it saw the chance to be at large in the world again.
but anyway, i was very happy to see it. i think it even featured in my dream last night. my dream was really wierd, though. in it, i was told that i had a second dad and he was a trucker who drove to china on a regular basis, which is why he was never around. and he was trying to parallel park an articulated truck (a really big one) with very little success. by dream also featured ambrosia creamed rice, the regular members of my family, a tiny kitchen, and probably loads else that i can't remember.
apart from that, i have nothing else to say, really. i smell like lush yummy shower cream.
it's a bit stormy today - i had to turn on the light getting up (at 8:30) and while i was in the shower, listening to the rain and wind on the window, i had a sudden desire to put up our little fiber-optic tree and blue lights. roll on december :)

it's a bit stormy today - i had to turn on the light getting up (at 8:30) and while i was in the shower, listening to the rain and wind on the window, i had a sudden desire to put up our little fiber-optic tree and blue lights. roll on december :)

dreams of pets
i had an exceptionally wierd dream last night. all my dreams are wierd, but this one was especially strange.
me and lordkilljoy or possibly penelope_stone were at a market kind of thing and this guy was selling lizards that looked like dinosaurs (a brachiosaurus but with diamond-shaped plates along its back) it was cute, yellow and we bought it straight away. but there was something you had to do to it before you put it in a tank. you had to bite its neck. so i did, but i bit too hard and ripped off a bit of skin, leaving a huge hole near its collarbone (do dinosaurs have collarbones?). so we got it home and put it in the tank with yoshi, who was not at all impressed with this newcomer. he attacked the dino-lizard, aiming for the hole in its neck, and somehow managed to pull its heart out. dino-lizard, looking shocked, keeled over and died right then and there.
me and lordkilljoy were equally stunned, unable to believe that our scardy little yoshi had just killed something three times bigger than him.
so, later, i had to clean the corpse out of the tank and nymph was lying on it, happy as anything. i had a job to get him off and the dino-lizard was all stiff and tangled around the branches in the tank.
yea - it was really wierd.
went to see la roux last night - spur of the moment (people couldn't go and gave their tickets to lordkilljoy). it was fun - up on the balcony of the academy. it was strange going to a non-rock gig, though. no rock-out bits and the crowd was very well behaved.
nymph-newtonious has been hanging out in the filter again. i don't know is it the flow of water or the tiny bit of extra heat, or just that it's hidy, but he really seems to love it in there. i think, one of these days, i'll stop taking him out of there. but then i'm afraid that he'll find a way out of the tank altogether. hmmm.
right. enough with the procrastination.

one step forwards two steps back
this editing a novel malarkey is so hard. i keep on making up new bits to throw in, and the next day cut them out again as i realize they are doing nothing but clogging up the story. so i get two or three pages up and then cut back one or two pages. it means i'm getting an average of one page a day. it's a killer slow pace. i have a text file called cuts and it is slowly becoming bigger and bigger.
anyway...
i had a really wierd dream last night. penelope_stone was showing me around intel (where she worked as a scientist) and i was really excited to see what this mystery place looked like on the inside. it had a very 70s vibe - lots of wood and plastic and textures and people with afros and wearing flares and old-style suits. it was packed with people, like an airport or a shopping centre, all wandering through the corridors and going up and down on the escalators and chatting and laughing and everyone seemed to be in the best mood.
the first room she showed me was a telecommunications / support helpdesk kind of place. everyone wore little telephone headsets and stood around white tables (made of plastic like a macbook) shouting into the mics of their headsets. the phones were little neon pink router-like thinks in the centre of the tables. we rushed through, because there was a lot of stamping and arm waving going on and everyone gave us mean, angry looks as we passed through.
then we went up an escalator, but before we got to the top the roof caved in, or it had caved in already and we had to try to wriggle around the debris. there were some guys there and they were telling me something (can't remember what - something about the building or my day or the damage or something).
anyway - the fabs were broken up into houses and each house was just that - a pleasant home-style building with four people working in it. penelope_stone's house was kinda medieval fashioned, with the upper floor build out over the lower. the inside was open, with comfortable furniture, but a total mess. the other three people she lived with seemed to ignore it, but it bothered her.
she quickly showed me a bit of her work - some sort of scientific research. but i was distracted by the planes that were flying over the main building, which i could see out the window (the window took up on whole wall of the house). they were so loud and i was afraid that they were going to crash into the building.
i can't really remember much else. i think there was another bit where i was talking to some people, but i don't really remember.
yea. not much else news. lordkilljoy was sick for the last few days. i hope he's feeling better soon.

again with the dreams
i guess it must be this time of year again. my dreams have become crazy and vivid and scattered.
last night my dream involved (possibly) the end of the world. there are just a few scenes that have come back to me - the first is:
i was in a car going past my secondary school, but the whole place had been knocked down and there were bulldozers and diggers on the rubble. loads of cars were parked along the road by the school and i wondered why they were there. someone beside me told me it was the last swimming class in the pool around the back. as i watched more cars pulled up and children got out and ran around the piles of rubble to vanish down the hill behind the school.
the second bit:
i was on a deck (of a ship? or maybe a train) and i needed help with something - something bloody (which i can't quite hold onto in my mind) but the guy i was talking to (the captain?) wanted to sell me poi. they looked like a good set and i was interested. so i took them out of the pack and unfurled them. they were massive wing poi, made of heavy cotton and too bulky to spin properly, but they did look impressive so i bought them.
the third bit:
i was with my aunt martene, in her room in her old house (only in was in the place her bathroom is) and we were having some sort of girly discussion. i'm not sure if i could move or not - it's very vague, but i have this idea that something exceptionally violent happened and there was lots of blood.
i know there is one image in my head of my arm split open and a huge gouge taken out of it and blood pouring everywhere. and my leg was the same and i could hardly walk.
and there was some other bit entirely set in a forest with an overlord and i was with a group of slaves. the complex was under attack or something and we were hiding out.
there were more bits, but they flit away when i try to focus on them. there was definitely something involving getting away from the end of the world on a train...
hmmm. oh well.

a few days at home
wow, one and a half pages of friends entries to get through (that's like 60 entries, mad). so i'm off to kerry today. i'm really looking forward to it.
i went into town yesterday and broke my non-spending policy. why is it that when i have no money coming in, i find nice clothes to buy. well, actually, i think it's that cork is better for shopping in. maybe it's because there aren't the massive crowds and because i know the layout of all the shops. but anyway, i got 2 new hoodies and a t-shirt, which is magenta (i don't know why i was attracted to it, but it will go well with a black long-sleeved top under it).
i haven't really been doing much all week. i've been getting 10 hours sleep the last few nights... i have no idea why i'm sleeping so long, 9 is usually what i need. and i've been having really vivid dreams - like really brightly coloured and loads of movement in each scene.
ow, this flexible rubber keyboard is making my fingers sore. i'm going to go now.

super-powered dream
I had an insanely crazy dream last night. me and a group of people had some kind of super powers and we wanted to break out of the system or something - i can't really remember. the once scene i can remember clearly is me and another guy juicing oranges in a compressor-thing, like they have at juice bars. we were doing this because of some woman, because we wanted to make her suffer or just abuse her stuff or something. we were also looking for a place to stay - all of us who had the powers, but we didn't want to live together. we wanted places like old castles and churches, gothic sort of buildings. and from our ancient abodes we could do anything we wanted.
i think there was a lot more to it, but it's not coming back to me.
got mostly the end of my christmas shopping done yesterday. got something for lordkilljoy and i know what i'm getting for davidnarby.
i'm almost finished prince of persia, and last night i pulled off my first combo. that's not good - it took me the whole game to learn how to pull off one. and there's supposed to be loads of them. oh well.
heh - a crow just landed on the light outside and it turned off. like most people probably would, i assumed the two events were linked, but they weren't. all the lights on the row have turned off. that was mad.
ok, i have nothing else to say.

HCl dream
I had a really wierd dream last night. I can't remember how everything tied together, but it involved hydrochloric acid and poeple's bones being turned to dust within thier skin. there was one image with a guy in a hospital and his hands were covered in a metal exoskeleton. then there was another bit with me being lost in a city, not even knowing what city i was in and wandering around hippie shops looking at pretty clothes and things. the last bit i can remember was in an old temple in fiji or the caribbean somewhere and there was an old scientist researching the temple because it was the source of the HCl. There were steps leading up to the cavern inside the temple, but the steps were wet with HCl and people were getting it on thier clothes and hands. the last scene was two local girls laughing and smiling running down a beach while the scientist (?) took photos of them.
it was quite disturbing, actually.

things
I applied for a new job yesterday. The last straw in my patience with the company i'm working for now was the rota for next week. i'm working 46 hours and have only one day off. i nearly cried when i opened the email and looked at it. but it did give me the kick up the bum i needed to actually go look for a new job. and it's pretty silly. they gave me so many hours in an effort to get more sales, but i am going to be way to tried to actually sell anything by next week. pah - working 7 days in a row and them having one day off. then i'm guessing i'm not going to have a day off until christmas day. but that would be 7 consecutive days without a break and that goes against my contract... so we'll see.
in other news - excellent news - lordkilljoy got me a bike for christmas :) it's cool. the guy in the shop let me cycle it around for a bit last night and it's amazing how a new bike works. not like my bike, which has some problems.
i had a wierd / cool dream last night where i was a tourist wearing a cross and a photo of the pope and people thought i was "a little bible girl." there was a castle-type-thing with a view over the town and out to the ocean. as i was exploring the castle a massive wave came and drowned everything and we could see fish swimming around out the windows.
that was the quick and nasty version of my dream, it was actually quite good.

dreams
my dreams have gotten totally crazy again. i thought it was just a spring thing, but no.
the night before last i dreamed of me and lordkilljoy trying to buy groceries, but everyone kept butting in on front of us, and then the girl ran off and our shopping was left sitting on the belt for hours.
then last night involved a group of rebels or some sort of resistance movement going up against a pirate / skeleton king and there was this wierd bit where there were demons or something and i had to free someone (possibly my aunt joan) from this dark room; but i was terrified to go in because she was possessed by the room. but i did get her out and the room looked like an old parlour from the 50s or something.
next week i will not see the sun rise, for it will all ready be up by the time i see it.
i can't wait for the weekend. lordkilljoy and i will be staying in clontarf castle. woo!! a whole 3 days of not having to stand up except to move from one place to another.
work's going well enough. i'm not really having a great week this week, simply because my hormones are acting up and making me feel rotten half the time. but i can't blame work, because i know that it wouldn't matter what i would do - i'd feel the same way.
to wrap up other things: been watching dr. who and lordkilljoy play lost odyssey and i've been playing prof. layton. we've been cooking lots and making some yummy pasta sauce mixes, with sort of random ingredients thrown in. jonathan coulton on friday - i hope my feet arn't killing me.
k - i'm going to go now.

on the bonsai and strange dreams
i was so sure i'd made a post yesterday about our bonsai... wierd. our bonsai kinda wilted a bit yesterday (or well, i noticed it yesterday) - it was just getting to looking a little pathetic and sorry-for-itself. so i went online and looked up sites to figure out what could be wrong. as it turns out, bonsais need loads and loads of water - like a bit every day and a bath once a week. when we got it the guy gave us the impression that you didn't need to water them that much. he never specifically said that, but he mentioned "just" and "spray bottle" so what were we supposed to think? so yesterday i watered it twice and then, in the evening, i dunked it in a tub of water and let it soak for a few minutes. i also left in on the kitchen window, where the sun gets in in the mornings. so this morning, when i checked it, it was looking way better :) woo. i can have plants not die on me. this is a first!
now to the second part of my post: my dream last night was strange. but not in the sense of content. as far as the "story" went, it was no stranger than most dreams i have: me and penelope_stone, trapped in a palace that had just been sacked by orcs. but they had killed everyone with some kind of magic / technology that had left the palace in perfect condition. the orcs still surrounded the place, though, and we were trying to stay really quiet and not move so that they wouldn't know we had survived. but then penelope_stone banged her head against the door and they heard and came rushing in. they chased us through massive corridors but we lost them and met up with a group of survivors in a huge atrium-like area. and some of them had cute pokémon-like creatures. (i wonder where that came from?!)
anyway.
all that was fine. the really strange thing about the dream was the quality of it. it was like dreaming in HD or having a 3d thing perfectly modelled and textured and rendered at the highest quality possible. everything looked amazing.
there are dreams you can have that feel real - like real life. well this wasn't like that at all. it was like a normal dream, except that all the imagery was crystal clear and frighteningly beautiful - like when you see something that is so perfect, your heart and mind kind of close up because you can't accept that something so amazing can actually exist in this world (i'm not sure if anyone else has ever actually had this feeling - like a burst of emotion so intense that it frightens you).
anyway - in my dream, everything was ultra-real. the pattern of the grain on the wood of the door, the way the light came through the windows and contrasted with the shadows on the ground and walls. even just the quality of the light; it was so bright coming through the domes and sky-lights on the ceiling and setting everything it landed on blazing with brightness...
i know what it was like - it was like dreaming in HDR, that very specific sort of light and shade that only HDR can give you. (kind of a bit like this hdr.)
yea. describing the quality of dreams is kinda hard.
so not much else. i'm heading to cork for the weekend.

my dream last night
i had a strange dream last night. in it i was in a massive group of people - like a town or something and we were all running away from something scary. we ran up a hill and there were three big tents in the way. most people went around, but i went through because i knew it was shorter. but there were traps inside the tent (which i knew about beforehand) and it wasn't safe if you weren't careful. but i was careful. i stopped just inside the tent and looked around. a big pit opened out and down in front of me, filled with spikes and pressure traps. off to the left there was a ledge that had crumbled apart and mostly fallen into the pit.
i could see a person on the other side of the pit, standing where the ledge met the floor over there. he looked at me with no emotion - like a robot or a construct. so i started forward but got stuck and was too scared to move. then he came over and picked me up and carried me to the other side. the construct was liam and when we got to the other side i didn't want him to put me down, so i clung on to him. and since he was governed by a set of programming he didn't drop me, just held me and waited for me to let go myself.
the last bit i can remember was me clinging to his neck and him hunkered down to get me as close to the ground as possible without actually shoving me away.
yea. it was kinda wierd, but it didn't feel bad. it was one of those dreams where you feel utterly trusting of someone else - like they will support you through everything, and while this means giving up your own will, you don't mind because you trust them so much. it's a wonderful feeling, actually - no worries at all, just this kind of blissful acceptance that the other person has absolute control over you. hmm - i guess the main reason why it's a nice feeling is because you don't have to do anything for yourself. you just follow a set of instructions / let someone else do all your thinking and decision making.
of course, this feeling would never work in reality, but it's nice when it happens in dreams.
